Every cancer survivor is different, each one with different circumstances and insurance needs as well as health variables that must be considered when applying for insurance. Your broker or financial adviser is best positioned to advise you on the products you are entitled to and that are most appropriate for your specific situation.
When choosing a financial adviser, it is important that they understand your condition. It is also your responsibility to disclose all relevant information to your broker.
It is important to note that you should never surrender a policy without taking expert advice.
If you are not happy with the service of your insurance company, your broker, your financial adviser or the sales person who arranged your policy, your policy document will have details on the relevant complaint process. If you have explored this process and your complaint has not been satisfactorily resolved, you can contact the office for the Ombudsman for Long-term Insurance.
For medical scheme, complaints your complaint must be submitted to the Principal Officer of your specific scheme. If you wish to challenge the response from your scheme, you can lodge a complaint with the Council for Medical Schemes.
Campaigning for Cancer’s ASK NOW Call Centre can aid you in navigating either of these processes.
